What is IVR and why it is used?

IVR stands for Interactive Voice Response. It is a technology in telecom industry which allows customers to interact with a company’s host system through voice recognition or by using DTMF tones as an input through keypad. DTMF is used as telecommunication signaling over analog telephone lines in the voice frequency between telephone handsets and other devices which are used for communication. IVR systems are used to control any function when the interface is broken into simple interactions. It is used to handle large call volumes. IVR technology is deployed into automobile systems to resolve satellite navigation and audio systems for hand free operations. It reduces the cost and increases the customer’s experience. Telephone banking, televoting and credit card services are the examples of IVR applications.

Now-a-days, many companies are using IVR services to extend their business to 24 hours and resolve their customer queries on live without any delay. IVR systems can be used as outbound calls.
Benefits:
1.       Live Call Transfer
2.       Mobile Payment Services
3.       Travel information like ticket booking, flight information
4.       Weather Forecasts
5.       Fax tone etc.,

Caller Ring Back Tone

CRBT is nothing but caller ring back tone. It is a ringing tone heard by caller while doing call on the telephone line. This Ring Back Tone is not generated in handset or by local switch in public networks. In place of ringing signal, voice announcements customized tones are generated by the distant switch. Ring Back Tones are also called as Caller Ring Back Tones in some areas like India.

CRBT is a service offered by the mobile network operators to the subscribers to set the music or a song as a ring tone. Here we can also set personal recording sounds or songs as a ring tone. You can also copy the ring tone which you heard while calling to another person and set it as your ring tone. We can set CRBT on the basis of time and geography.

Multimedia Messaging Service

MMS stands for Multimedia Messaging Service, which is used to send and receive messages that include multimedia contents like images, graphics, audio and video from one mobile to another. MMS is developed by Open Mobile Alliance (OMA). When compared to SMS, these MMS Messages are delivered to user in a different way. At first the MMS Message is encoded at the sending device which is similar to a MIME e-mail. This message is forwarded to the carrier’s and store in a server known as MMSC.

Once the MMSC carrier receives the message, it first checks whether the receiver handset is MMS capable or not. If it supports then it extracts the content and sends to temporary storage server with a HTTP front-end. The control message with an URL is received by the receiver who is on another carrier through internet and opens the embedded URL by using WAP browser. If the receiver’s handset is not MMS Capable then the message is delivered to web based server where content can be seen by using normal internet browser. This URL is sent to receiver’s mobile in normal text format. We can also send bulk MMS messages by using MMS Gateway at a time.

Short Message Service Center

An SMSC stands for short message service center. It is a network element in mobile network which is responsible for transfer of text messages from sender to receiver. When the user sends text message to another user, at first the message is stored in SMSC and then delivers to destination user when they are available. We can set the validity period of every SMS in SMSC. Each and every handset of SMSC has the facility to configure validity of message. We can specify short time limit for storing message in SMSC if we want. When the time is expiry the message won’t save in SMSC. SMPP protocol is used in short message service center to support wireless network. To establish two-way SMS traffic, short message service center used an aggregator model known as SMSC Gateway.

SMSC Gateway:

SMSC Gateway is interface between mobile networks in telecommunications for sending and receiving text messages over the mobile networks. Many SMSC gateways support media conversion from email and other formats. We can also send and receive text messages from email, web pages and some software applications with the help of a device known as direct-to-SMSC gateway. SMPP protocol coverts the message format in to a format understood by the SMSC. By using this device we can send and receive text messages in bulk.
